Overview
With the introduction of the Apple Vision Pro, XR technologies are now increasingly poised to become an integral part of our daily lives. Notably, educators have displayed considerable interest in integrating these cutting-edge technologies into various facets of language education. Through the mediums of augmented, virtual, and mixed realities, XR technologies are advancing at a rapid pace and are ready to significantly transform current pedagogical practices. Specifically, the immersive and interactive capabilities of XR technologies have captured serious attention from educators and researchers. This special issue aims to spotlight pioneering applications, effective strategies, and best practices for leveraging XR technologies to enrich language education, drawing from insights presented at the TaiwanCALL 2025 Conference.

This call for papers thus aims to advance our limited understanding in that regard. We welcome submissions on a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:

-
Systematic reviews, meta-analysis, theories, and trends on the use of XR in language education
-
Case studies and educational practices in using XR in language education
-
Technical discussions of developing XR for language education
-
Ethical, cultural, and social considerations of using XR in language education
