Empowering EFL Learners with AI: Innovations from Taiwan’s Cool English Platform

This talk presents the latest developments in AI-integrated tools and services designed to  enhance English language learning, with a special focus on Taiwan’s national "Cool English"  platform. Developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Education and National  Taiwan Normal University, Cool English leverages cutting-edge technologies such as automated  speech recognition, AI chatbots, writing assistants, and content creation tools to support learners  from elementary to high school levels. Key innovations include the integration of Microsoft’s  pronunciation assessment, OpenAI’s Whisper for speech-to-text feedback, and ChatGPT powered conversational agents and writing support systems. The platform also features tailored  teacher tools, adaptive assessments, and multimedia resources for self-directed learning. This  presentation highlights how AI technologies can transform traditional language learning  paradigms by offering immediate feedback, personalized learning experiences, and scalable  support for diverse learner needs. Through interactive demonstrations and case studies, the talk  illustrates how AI not only enhances language input and output opportunities but also empowers  both educators and students in the EFL context. These insights offer a roadmap for educators,  policymakers, and developers seeking to integrate AI meaningfully into language education  systems.
